Prime Minister Hon. James Marape is taking a compassionate leave following the passing of a family member. He is scheduled to resume work on Monday. During his leave from duties , Deputy Prime Minister Hon. John Rosso will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
Due to his personal bereavement, Prime Minister Marape will not be attending the Papua New Guinea Kumul’s momentous game against New Zealand Kiwis in Sydney on Sunday, but conveyed his heartfelt support to the Kumuls as they prepare to face the Kiwis in a highly anticipated rugby league match.
“Our Kumuls are a source of national pride, and I know they will give their all on the field this Sunday,” Prime Minister Marape stated.
“They embody the spirit of our nation—resilience, strength, and unity. As they prepare to take on the New Zealand Kiwis, we stand behind them with unwavering support.”
He encouraged Papua New Guineans at home and abroad to rally behind the team, emphasising the importance of national unity and support during such a significant international event.
“To the Kumuls, I say this: play with courage, play with heart, and remember that you have the full backing of all Papua New Guineans. We are all cheering for you and are immensely proud of what you have achieved and will continue to achieve,” Prime Minister Marape added.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the coaches, staff, and everyone involved in preparing the team for this important match, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.
The PNG Kumuls will face the New Zealand Kiwis in Sydney on Sunday, in what promises to be an exciting match for rugby league fans. Prime Minister Marape urged all supporters to follow the game and join in solidarity to show Papua New Guinea’s passion for the sport.
