Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, MP and Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) Governor, Ms. Elizabeth Genia, officially launched the Commemorative Bank Note, Kina (K50), and Coin, Toea (50 toea) today, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Kina and Toea Day and the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Papua New Guinea.
In his keynote speech, Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, MP stated that the Kina and Toea are a symbol of unity today and will be so into the future.
Governor of BPNG Ms. Elizabeth Genia has announced that the K50 notes and 50 toea coin are currently being printed in Australia by the Central Bank’s long-time partners, Note Printing Australia (NPA) and Royal Australian Mint.
Ms. Genia further announced that there will be 20 million commemorative K50 notes and 50 toea coins in circulation by the 28th of August 2025.
