CHIEF SECRETARY ANNOUNCES THEME OF 2025 PUBLIC SERVICE DEDICATION SERVICE

Chief Secretary to Government Ivan Pomaleu is calling on all public servants right around the country to tune in for the Public Service Dedication Service on January 10, to listen to important speeches that will be delivered to all public servants.

The Chief Secretary said the speeches will be delivered by Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, Minister for Community Development Hon. Jason Peters and Minister for Public Service Hon. Joe Sungi, based on the theme ‘Year of Restoration in the public service’.

Mr Pomaleu said the theme of the service is a significant statement derived from the Book of Leviticus, Chapter 25, and calls for a reset in all aspects of life in the 50th year of life.

He said the restoration or reset must take place, whether it is community living, whether it is in economic life, debt restoration, or restoration of land to its original owners.

Mr Pomaleu said therefore, on PNG’s Golden Jubilee as a country, it is important that the Public Service, the service machinery of Government, recognises the significance of the Year and the enormous expectations that are placed on the public servants to deliver on the work that they are mandated to deliver but also to help celebrate the year for and on behalf of the people.

The Chief Secretary added that as they reach their country’s 50th year of independence, activities geared towards restoration for all public servants, from the National Level to the District Level will be enormous therefore, messages to be delivered at the Pubic Service Dedication Service are meant to give direction on what to do, where to go and to rally all the peoples’ conscience towards the agenda of restoration.

“Public servants are quite aware of what the expectations are and Friday will be about reminding us of our responsibilities as public servants and I do want appeal to all our public servants to tune in if you are not in Port Moresby,” Mr Pomaleu said.

He further added that the Prime Minister will be there (at the public servants’ dedication service) to address the gathering, to appeal to their collective conscience of what their responsibilities are as public servants.

Mr Pomaleu said that this is an important year for restoration and that there will be an enormous amount of work to deal with, not just events and activities that will be visible for celebrations, but the Prime Minister has requested that an enormous amount of work will be focused on our reviewing laws and policies that are obsolete or irrelevant, as they drive the big set of agenda for change.
