CHIEF SECRETARY POMALEU WELCOMES AUSTRALIA’S DFAT CYBER AMBASSADOR TO PNG

Chief Secretary to Government, Ivan Pomaleu today welcomed Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Cyber Ambassador, Branden Dowling and his team to Papua New Guinea.

DFAT Cyber Ambassador Dowling and his team of experts were present at the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council today to conduct an awareness on cyber-security to the department staff, which aims to enhance the staff’s knowledge and practices in protecting their digital environment especially in the government sector.

“I welcome you to Papua New Guinea and to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council. We have a collection of staff doing various things from policy coordination, APEC, infrastructure, and security are here for this presentation. So, we welcome you all to this informative exchange.

“Ambassador Dowling in his presentation today will cover essential cyber security information, its significance for Papua New Guinea, and the support Australia is providing to the country in this domain,” Chief Secretary Pomaleu said.

Mr Pomaleu said the Australian Government, through its agencies, has been quite active in providing support and assistance; working in collaboration with a number of PNG Government agencies and industry.

“The team will talk through different aspects of emerging cyber-security challenges, globally, but some of their own experiences in Australia on how they coordinated, addressed, and built capabilities to address those challenges.

“Ambassador Dowling has been involved in this space for a long time, in different capacities within the Australian government system, and he comes to us with a very clear understanding of where we’re at.

“The globe is acting in relation to cyber challenges and how the Australian system has been able to deal with those but I think also being in different aspects of his experience, globally, in terms of this specific conversation,” he said.

The team had an hour’s presentation with the department staff, of which many have found it to be very informative.
