Prime Minister Hon. James Marape continues to serve the interest of the people of Papua New Guinea at Pacific Islands Leaders’ Forum despite facing the threat of a Vote of No Confidence motion in the September 2024 Parliament sitting.

In an interview with Radio New Zealand, Prime Minister Marape said Papua New Guinea has a robust democracy which allows Members of the Papua New Guinea Parliament the right to make a judgement on his leadership.

He said, “Members of Parliament have it within their rights to contest, especially those in the Opposition. It is a Constitutional process allowed by law. It’s up to them.

“If the majority feel that my leadership is not worthy, then they will make the call. It is part of the democratic process of our system of government. I am pretty confident and relaxed because it is nothing personal.

“They know my incumbency and they know the alternates that are on offer, so I have no problem with this.

“But it does not stop us from doing what we must do, both domestic and internationally. We are here with little care for a possible Vote of No Confidence next week.

“I have work to do. I am not going to get caught up with politics like those who have nothing to do for the country,” Prime Minister Marape said.
