PM MARAPE CONGRATULATES SIR THEO FOUNDATION ON ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has today congratulated the Sir Theo Foundation on its 10th anniversary and thanked the foundation for its contributions to the development of Papua New Guinea, especially in the area of health care and early childhood learning.

Prime Minister Marape and his wife, Mrs Rachael Marape, headed Port Moresby’s high society last night at the Foundation’s major fundraising dinner/concert event at the Airways Hotel where auction of special items and donations were pledged to raise more money for the Foundation’s work. A special feature on the evening’s program included an opera rock performance by Spanish singer Ms Cristina Ramos.

Prime Minister Marape today commended the Sir Theo Foundation for its support of the Port Moresby General Hospital and the Buk bilong Pikinini programme, while remembering the Foundation’s founding director, the late Sir Theophilus Constantinou.

He said, “The Constantinou family has contributed immensely to the development of PNG in the tourism and hospitality sector, creating thousands of jobs for Papua New Guineans and bringing in the tourism dollar in provinces where their chain of hotels has gone.

“The late Sir Theophilus was the chairman of the Port Moresby General Hospital board and was very aware of the needs of PMGH. He started this Foundation in 2014 to help support our premier hospital, and although he has parted from us in 2019, Sir Theo’s legacy continues unabated.

“The Sir Theo Foundation continues to raise money every year to support PMGH, and schools in NCD and literacy programmes such as Buk bilong Pikinini.

“Last night, the Foundation reached out to also support the Kokoda Track Foundation with a cheque presentation.  The fundraising event is a great example of mobilizing the private and public sectors to come together in support of needs within our communities.

“I commend and congratulate the Sir Theo Foundation on its 10th anniversary, and pay respects to the memory of its founder, my friend, the remarkable Sir Theophilus Constantinou who has left us with a handprint that continues to help us despite his absence today,” said Prime Minister Marape.
