Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has praised the Eliseo Group for its ongoing investment in Port Moresby and its vital role in creating jobs for local residents, particularly in the hard-hit area of Gerehu. Following the devastating events of January 10, 2024, which saw significant damage to businesses, including widespread looting and arson, the Eliseo Group has demonstrated resilience and a commitment to rebuilding.

Prime Minister Marape highlighted the impact of the company’s efforts, especially with the recent opening of the Eliseo Gerehu Plaza, where 120 new employees have begun work. This marks a critical step forward for the community as it rebuilds and recovers.

“I commend the Eliseo Group for creating 120 new jobs at its new Eliseo Gerehu Plaza and for its plans to open Eliseo 9-Mile Plaza, providing another 150 jobs, followed by Eliseo Boroko, employing another 150,” said Prime Minister Marape.

“This is an inspiring demonstration of faith in our community and commitment to our people.”

“In addition to creating jobs, the Eliseo Group is providing a much-needed sense of hope and confidence in Port Moresby’s future.”

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the company’s willingness to invest in the face of adversity and highlighted the broader impact of Eliseo’s expansion plans.

“I am heartened to read in the newspapers that the Eliseo Group remains committed to serving the community and providing jobs to young people, with plans to set up establishments in other parts of the country,” he continued.

“Amidst so much gloom-and-doom following the events of that sad day in Papua New Guinea’s history, Eliseo’s faith in the country by creating new jobs and investing in new supermarkets is indeed a silver lining to the dark cloud.

“The Eliseo Group’s expansion into multiple locations across Port Moresby—Gerehu, 9-Mile, and Boroko—reflects a robust commitment to community development and sustainable growth. Beyond job creation, these projects symbolise a brighter future for Port Moresby, as the Group works to meet the needs of its customers while empowering local residents.
