His Excellency Ambassador Yang Xiaoguang, members of the diplomatic corps, distinguished guests, staff of the Chinese Embassy, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is an honor and a privilege to be here this evening and be part of this special occasion. On behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, I extend warm and sincere congratulations to the Government and the people of China on reaching the 75″ anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.
A great achievement indeed.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
In commemorating your great milestone, Papua New Guinea gives credit and appreciates China’s acceleration and achievement in modernizing its society within a short span of time.
It shows your nation’s determination, perseverance and ambition for a better modem China.
Your advancement in the world in economics, technological, innovation and infrastructural space to name a few, has demonstrated the coherent oneness, resilience and will-power of both the Government and the Chinese people.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Since establishing diplomatic ties in 197 6, PNG/China relations has blossomed and steadily grown from strength to strength on all levels including government-to-government, trade and investment and, people-to-people exchanges.
The bilateral relations between PNG and China has been productive and strengthened as we continue to further explore strategic areas of cooperation that will further contribute to the development and progress of both our nations.
In that connection, PNG values its relationship with China and, we will continue to commit to the ‘One China Policy’.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
In Trade and Investment,
China continues to be one of PNG’s largest trading partners and this is highly valued. Trade has been growing steadily and during the past 4 years trade has been in favor of PNG enjoying a trade surplus of K3,137.72 million in 2022. We hope to foster and grow this.
I also wish to highlight our appreciation to the Chinese business community for their continued support to the development aspirations of this country especially, at the grass roots level contributing to our local communities and economy by providing services in many of our provinces and rural areas.
Moreover, I wish to assure that the PNG Government will continue to support and ensure the safety and wellbeing of Chinese investors and their businesses in PNG.
It is common knowledge that, in PNG’s main provincial centers and remote villages, you are bound to find a Chinese-operated business bringing much needed goods and services closer to Papua New Guineans.
In Sectoral Cooperation and People-to-People Exchange,
Papua New Guinea continues to benefit from established Cooperation with China in areas such as Education, Health, Agriculture, Fisheries and Infrastructures.
Through the Chinese Government Scholarship, some of our future generation have been taught in Chinese Academic institutions reputed to be some of the best in the Asia region and the world.

In closing, the development growth and achievement of the People’s Republic of China paves the way forward and is a testament of the hardworking Chinese people and Government.
I am confident that relations between both our countries will continue to grow deeper and stronger in the years to come.
Once again, on behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, I extend our sincere warm congratulations to the Chinese Government and its people on the achievement of this significant milestone.
